A “Hat Trick” for Libby, O’Brien, Kingsley & Champion

June was an extraordinary month for Libby O’Brien Kingsley & Champion. Gene Libby lead trial teams composed of associates Tyler Smith and Keith Richard to prevail in three multi-day jury trials that resulted in three unanimous jury verdicts for our clients. The trials were held in the Maine Superior Court in York County.

When a case proceeds to trial, and is to be decided by a jury, the outcome can rarely be predicted. For that reason, prevailing in three consecutive cases in the same month is something to be celebrated. The feat is made more remarkable because only a very small percentage of civil matters proceed to trial. Jury trials in civil cases are even rarer.

Each case was unique; we represented both plaintiffs and a defendant. The claims in the cases ranged from undue influence of an elderly father, to adverse possession of property, to legal malpractice in a divorce trial. With thorough preparation and planning, we advocated for a fair and correct application of the law and told each client’s story to the jury. We took complex cases and made them simpler and understandable. Our approach was validated by the results. Through a combination of “might” and “right,” justice was done.

Our firm is very proud of the diligent effort of our attorneys and staff and the fortitude of our clients that placed trust in our judgment to vindicate their rights at trial.
