Go ahead, Google: “Why doesn’t my lawyer…”
Just do it! We know you want to see how it auto-fills!
And what’s the number one complaint?
“CALL ME BACK!!!”
No joke — this is the biggest frustration we hear from clients who come to us after leaving their previous attorney. And, frankly, we don’t quite understand it.
As attorneys — and as officers of the court — we have many duties to uphold: competence, confidentiality, and diligence, the last of which encompasses promptness. Communication is not optional — it’s an ethical obligation.
That’s why our Trust & Estates team, led by partner Brian Champion and myself (J.R. Fallon), consistently make a good faith effort to ensure that we or our team return our clients’ calls or emails within 24 hours. Are we perfect, surely not, but we have a high success rate—just ask our clients!
Now, let’s be clear: that doesn’t mean we’ll have your complex legal issue resolved in a single day. Some matters take research, strategy, or time in court. But what it does mean is that your email or voicemail has been read, noted, and acknowledged — and you’ll know you’re on our radar. If we can’t provide a full answer yet, you’ll at least hear: “We’ve got it, we’re working on it, and we’ll follow up as soon as we can.”
That way, you’re never left wondering whether your message disappeared into the abyss. Of course, you can still Google all sorts of things about lawyers:
• Why doesn’t my lawyer laugh at my lawyer jokes?
• Why does my lawyer always wear collegiate ties or argyle socks?
All fair questions. But one thing you’ll never have to Google about us is: “Why don’t Attorneys Champion and Fallon return my call or email?” Because we always have promptly communicated with our clients and we always will — reach out to us at (207) 985-1815 and find our for yourself!
